I Cope

Williams’ project I Cope confronts the frequent misrepresentation of mental health in visual media. Traditional and contemporary imagery of mental health disorders often reduces these experiences to harmful stereotypes. In response, Williams employs alternative experimental approaches to photography, including the use of medication as a substance to create imagery. This unconventional method reflects the physical and emotional impact of mental health treatment. Through fragmented and layered visuals, Williams offers viewers a more nuanced perspective on mental health disorders, encouraging a deeper reflection on the complexities often overlooked in mainstream discourse.
